I love rice. Since I don’t use sauces or salt, brown rice can be a bit bland sometimes. I’ve tried Jasmine rice which is okay. Not my favorite. The one that I really like is Basmati rice.
Basmati rice has a light, pleasant taste. It tastes more like a white rice, but is more flavorful in my book. But, the smell, oh my, it’s wonderful! My Mom says it smells like popcorn cooking. I guess it does.
Basmati rice is one of the grains that microwaves pretty well. I microwave it in my microwave steamer on medium (50%) for 10 minutes. Then, I check the water level and add more if needed. Then, I go another 10-15 minutes on medium. I let it sit for 5-10 minutes afterwards.
If you haven’t tried this variety of rice, you should give it a try. It may be worth cooking just for the smell.
